Assistant Controller

Southwestern University invites applications for the position of Assistant Controller in the Business Office.  This is a full-time, administrative management position with benefits.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:  Overseeing plant, restricted, grant, designated, and agency funds; supervising Purchasing and Accounts Payable system and employees; supervising compliance for government/private grants and related financial reporting; supervising or performing bank reconciliations and providing general support of internal controls and accounting.  Additional duties include, but are not limited to:  Audit work paper preparation; providing support for special projects accounting; performing or overseeing private gift reconciliation – general ledger to development; performing periodic surprise cash counts; supporting the preparation of State and Federal Tax reports and returns; coordinating faculty development awards and interacting with Provost Office staff to ensure proper awarding, accounting and reporting of faculty development funds.

Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; five years professional-level accounting experience; two to three years of supervisory experience with demonstrated effectiveness as a first-line manager; ability to effectively utilize automated systems for financial and operational reporting, analysis, and control; ability to process information in a highly computerized, database management system; ability to work independently and as part of a team; demonstrated leadership skills, including a strong work ethic; possess excellent interaction and communication skills (verbal and written); demonstrated professional manner; ability to be flexible, adjust to fluctuating priorities, and produce reliable and timely work product; proven ability to perform well in stressful situations.  CPA license and five + years of professional-level accounting experience, with three or more years supervisory experience preferred.
