Graduates of the Last Decade Respond to Challenge

Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD - classes of 2002-2011) account for more than 25 percent of all Southwestern alumni.

Without GOLD alumni participation, there would be fewer scholarships and fewer resources for academic departments and student organizations.

Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD - classes of 2002-2011) account for more than 25 percent of all Southwestern alumni, and play a crucial role in the future of the University. Recognizing the importance of this group, generous graduates from the 60s, 70s and 90s provided funds to match GOLD alumni gifts dollar-for-dollar through June 30, 2011. The goal was to encourage first-time and repeat gifts from young alumni by increasing the impact of their donations.

We are pleased to report the response:

  • Scholarships Funds increased by more than $25,000.
  • Academic departments and faculty at SU benefited from more than 50 new gifts.
  • Student Life and Athletics received 80 separate gifts.
  • The 530 GOLD alumni who took part made possible more than $75,000 for SU students.

The impact these gifts have on current students is clear.  Without GOLD alumni participation, there would be fewer scholarships and fewer resources for academic departments and student organizations. There would even be fewer Pirate Bikes on campus!

GOLD alumni are the future of Southwestern University!  Thanks to everyone who made the GOLD Matching Gift Challenge a success.
