The Arts Festival is an opportunity for the arts to bring our campus and the Georgetown community together. The festival is scheduled to take place on April 2nd, 2011 from 11am- 5pm in the McCombs campus center and outside on the Academic Mall. We are collaborating with Suzy Pukys and the Civic Engagement department to bring students to campus from Duck University and the Georgetown Boys and Girls Club for the festival. Throughout the festival, instrumental and vocal ensembles will perform in the Bishop?s Lounge and these groups will include Southwestern students as well as GISD schools, and community members. Outside the McCombs Building, children and adults will have the opportunity to handle and play many musical instruments at the Instrument Petting Zoo. This year SU students familiar with each instrument will hold demonstrations and instruct those who wish to learn about playing each instrument. This year we are also going to hold an art exhibit in order to allow SU students to showcase their work to the community. We also plan to host a ?Mind Over Music? lesson, ?yoga at noon,? Zumba Fitness lessons, face painting, and t-shirt decorating. We will be bringing in an outside theatre troupe from Austin who at the moment is TBA and Bead the Change will also be joining us this year. An integral part of the festival is the charity raffle, and this year?s profits will benefit Mr. Holland?s Opus, a program that provides musical instruments to children and schools in need.
