I. Lisa Hopkins called the meeting to order at 12:04
II. Minutes from March 26, 2010 were approved following the amendment of Patrick Veerkamp’s name.
III. Council reports
a. Faculty Affairs Council report –Suzy Absent b. Academic Affairs Council report- Ad Hoc committee formed. c. University Affairs Council report- Email attached
IV. Committee reports
a. Enrichment Program – Financial Planning Fair planned and is co-sponsored by Staff Affairs Council and Fringe Benefits Committee. Volunteers were requested. b. Suggestion Box- Has not met yet. Final Food for Thought is fast approaching in May. c. Staff Handbook- No Report d. New Staff Orientation – One new employee. e. Council Newsletter- Recommendations for next newsletter include SU Giving Day and new council members results announcements, frequently used “vague vocabulary” words for faculty and staff recommended, interesting summer stories from faculty and staff column also recommended.
V. Discussion of Diversity Statement – Lisa handed out in Suzy’s absence, explanation of the statement’s purpose.
a. Motion made by Lisa Hopkins to approve. b. Sarah Wooley seconded the motion. c. Council approved the statement unanimously.
VI. New Business.
a. Professional Development- Rotating conference discussion, internal staff development suggested by Lisa Hopkins. b. Further discussion of possible funding for Staff development. Lisa Hopkins recommended that the discussion be deferred until the Staff Affairs representatives meet next semester. c. Discussion of University sanctioned mentorship for faculty and staff members during a portion of the day.
