While politicians across the country vigorously debate the role of government in our society, Southwestern students will be debating it as well.

“Resolved: Increased U.S. government presence in social and economic affairs is detrimental to Americans” is the topic for the final round of the 2010 Brooks Prize Debate, which will be held on Tuesday, March 30, at 5 p.m. in the McCombs Ballrooms.

The students who will be participating in the March 30 debate were selected after winning preliminary rounds in which the topic was “Resolved: A democratic society has an obligation to provide adequate health care for its citizens.”

An oratory competition will also be part of the March 30 debate. The topic for the final round of the oratory competition will be “Creativity.”
