Southwestern University President Edward Burger announced Wednesday that Tim Cobb will take the lead of Southwestern’s Office of Marketing and Communications as Vice President for Integrated Communications on July 18. Cobb is an award-winning marketing strategist who brings to Southwestern more than 20 years of managerial experience in brand and market strategy—and a proven track record of leading creative teams to successful and greater heights.

“Tim Cobb is the quintessential leader for this very impactful role at Southwestern,” says President Burger. “His experience in managing and directing marketing and communications teams, coupled with a deep understanding of branding and marketing in higher education, will bring a confluence of unparalleled expertise to Southwestern. He will inspire his team, and I am delighted to welcome Mr. Cobb to our campus and to our community.”

Cobb was most recently the Senior Marketing Strategist and Creative Director at DHX Advertising in Portland, Ore. where he was responsible for overseeing creative direction and day-to-day operations. Under his leadership, the firm’s total billings grew 190%. Prior to that, he held other high-level marketing positions including Senior Business Strategist at HMH Communications, Inc., President and Creative Director at Staccato Creative Communications, Vice President and General Manager—Creative Service Division for The Oswego Company, Inc., Managing Director at INS Advertising, Inc., and Regional Supervisor for Young & Rubicam Advertising, Inc.

Throughout his career, Cobb specialized in the marketing communication needs of university clients, orchestrating numerous marketing campaigns and branding projects—all with highly successful outcomes. Mr. Cobb credits this experience with sparking his interest in higher education, leading him to Southwestern.

Cobb was a past President of the Portland Advertising Federation and the Oregon Marketing Association. He holds a B.S. in business administration with a major in marketing and minor in psychology from Oregon State University, and an M.S. in management from Purdue University.
