Southwestern is currently enrolling senior citizens for the University’s second round of class audits for Fall 2016. Auditing a class allows lifelong learners interested in a subject to take a course without receiving a grade or credit. Adults ages 50 and older will receive half-off the regular rate for auditing classes. Southwestern is accepting applications for fall classes through Jul. 1, 2016, and classes begin on Aug. 22, 2016.

Typically, a class audit at Southwestern costs $150 per credit hour, or $600 per course. This opportunity allows those enrolled to audit classes at $75 per credit hour, or $300 per course.

“Institutionally, our core values highlight, ‘lifelong learning and a passion for intellectual and personal growth,’” says Christine Bowman, Dean of Admission and Enrollment Services at Southwestern. “The non-traditional students who choose to return to campus and engage in our classrooms often learn new topics as well as share life experiences that add value to discussions. Whether learning a new language or participating in engaging academic dialogue, all students benefit from this type of diversity in the classroom.”

As a private liberal arts institution, Southwestern offers courses in various disciplines including the arts, humanities and sciences. For a full list of courses, prospective students can visit the course catalog online at www.southwestern.edu/academics/registrar/catalog.

Enrollment in courses is approved based on space availability. Courses designed to develop skills and that are “hands-on” in nature such as applied music, studio art or fitness and recreational activities may not be audited.

Adults who would like to audit a class must complete a visiting student application, which can be accessed at www.southwestern.edu/admission.
