At the 2014 Associated Colleges of the South (ACS) annual conference Southwestern’s Vice President for Student Life Jerry Brody was bestowed with the Leonard Goldberg Citation, presented to chief student affairs officers of the Associates Colleges of the South to acknowledge their notable and enduring contributions.

It is his 11th year at Southwestern, Brody is known for providing exceptional leadership and service to the University and its students, activism through regional, national and international organizations, and constant advocacy for the holistic development of students in general.

“Some of my proudest accomplishments would be serving on the search committee that brought President Burger to Southwestern University, seeing Associate Vice President Glada Munt, Dean Jaime Woody, Associate Athletic Director and Head Trainer Glen Schwab, and Police Chief Deborah Brown receive state, regional and/or national recognition,” says Brody. “But there is no greater joy for those of us in Student Life than seeing our students develop into thoughtful, independent, responsible and civic minded adults.”

Brody has always played a pivotal role in the lives of students at Southwestern. This award is merely a representation of the years of excellence he has dedicated to the University.

“I was lucky enough to get to work with Jerry Brody during my time serving on Southwestern’s Student Congress,” says Nathan Tuttle ’14. “Jerry is a great advocate for students and is always looking for innovative ways to enhance the student experience.”

Daniel Webb ’08 adds, “Jerry Brody was genuinely interested in helping students learn from leadership experiences and had an incredible ability to empower students to contribute positively to the Southwestern community.”

There is widespread feeling on campus and among alumni that Southwestern is fortunate to have someone as passionate as Brody as a member of the community.

Upon receiving the honor, Brody said, “I am especially thrilled and humbled to receive the Leonard Goldberg Citation because this recognition comes from a group of peers I admire and respect deeply.”

The Associated Colleges of the South is comprised of 16 liberal arts colleges including Southwestern.
