He has titled the lectures to be presented: “The End of Religious Pluralism” (11:00am) and “Why No One Wants to Die in America.” (7:00pm). Both lectures will be presented in the Lois Perkins Chapel.

A book signing and reception will follow the evening lecture in the Bishops Lounge.

A native Texan and Southwestern University graduate, Professor Hauerwas has authored dozens of books and articles and inspired numerous works about and in conversation with his thought. He works across the boundaries of narrative theology, social ethics, and moral theology, drawing from classical, philosophical, and theological literary texts.

Hauerwas was named “America’s Best Theologian” by Time magazine in 2001 and delivered the esteemed Gifford Lectures at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland that same year. His book, A Community of Character: Toward a Constructive Social Ethic (1982) was selected as one of the 100 most important books on religion of the 20th century.
