Five women come together to be bridesmaids in the wedding of the year! However, they all harbor secrets that lead them to hide out in an upstairs bedroom for most of the reception. Why?
Frances, a cousin of the bride, is an innocent and well-meaning woman whose strong fundamentalists views clash with those around her. Meredith, the bride’s rebellious younger sister, is brooding and angry while hiding a dark secret. Trisha, the cynical hometown beauty, is tested after meeting one of the young ushers. Georgeanne, an old childhood friend, struggles with a loveless marriage and wanting more out of her life. And Mindy, the groom’s lesbian sister, battles with a culture that doesn’t accept who she is. As these women’s secrets are revealed with wit and sharp humor, hilarity ensues. The women begin to discover what bonds them together.
From the screenwriter of the Academy Award-winning film American Beauty, comes a hysterical and touching play that celebrates the bonds of womanhood. The New York Post has called Five Women Wearing the Same Dress a “wonderfully and entertaining play“ that is “an irreverent and funny look at the intricacies of friendship and the power of similar dressing.”
