The Tower family has loaned additional materials to Southwestern University. The paper loan items primarily cover the Secretary of Defense nomination and hearings and Senator Tower's work on two books, Consequences and The Coming Constitutional Crisis. Types of material include correspondence, memoranda, book drafts, transcripts, statements, news clippings and assorted printed material. There are also some miscellaneous items: a notebook containing a handwritten draft of a research paper and class notes from Tower's days as a student at Southwestern University, a handwritten letter to Tower from Richard Nixon, and a handwritten letter to Tower from Ronald Reagan regarding the Iran-Contra Affair.
The bulk of the loan items are photographs, memorabilia and artifacts.
Photographs spanning Senator Tower's life and career include everything
from a photograph of Senator Tower, Senator Barry Goldwater and Congressman
Bill Miller in 1964 to a photograph of Senator Tower, Senator John Warner
and President Ronald Reagan taken in the 1980s. There are also numerous
political cartoons among the memorabilia as well as the pen of President
George Bush used to nominate Tower as Secretary of Defense and a cowboy
hat that was specially made for the senator.
