This series documents
Senator Tower's daily activities throughout his career in the Senate, from
1961-1985. Materials for each year are generally divided into three categories,
"Calendars," "Schedules," and "Special Events," although 1974 is represented
by only one calendar and two microfilm. In addition, a few scattered general
files contain public relations advice and instructions to aides who accompanied
the senator or helped plan his schedule. Speeches, talking points, biographies,
memoranda and notes occasionally accompany some files. Most calendars are
"Month-At-A-Glance" or "Day-At-A-Glance" records of Senator Tower's personal,
social and political activities. Generally, the calendars contain records
of appointments and events along with interspersed notes from his aides
indicating with whom he would be meeting and what topics would be discussed.
The "Schedules," which duplicate some information found in "Calendars,"
are a detailed register of Senator Tower's activities on a daily basis.
Often there are precise lists of each day's events, such as a flight schedule
of arrival and departure times and places, contacts for the event, and
the topic or purpose of the event. Fund-raisers for his colleagues, meetings
with groups such as Republican Women or the Republican National Committee,
and functions with Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Southwestern University and
Southern Methodist University are among the more frequent events.
