both on the Web and in the Smith Library Center print
collection, that are particularly useful for the
study of Sociology.
INDEXES
ARTstor
The ARTstor image database is a searchable collection of downloadable
high quality digital images for education and scholarship. The
database documents artistic and historical traditions across
many time periods and cultures. ARTstor is designed for researchers,
teachers and students. Users can download individual images
or use the ARTstor Offline Image Viewer to build a presentation
using ARTstor images, arrange and caption the images, and deliver
the presentation in the classroom.[ More

Child
Abuse, Child Welfare & Adoption
Database
Produced in association with the National Clearninghouse
on Child Abuse & Neglect Information and the National
Adoption Information Clearinghouse, this database
provides bibliographic citations and abstracts of
professional literature, primarily of U.S. origin,
as well as audiovisual materials on the maltreatment,
safety, permanency and well-being of children. Publication
types include books, journals, government reports,
conference papers, state annual reports, legislation,
curricula, and unpublished papers. Coverage from
1965-present. Updated monthly.
Ethnic
NewsWatch
Ethnic NewsWatch is a full text collection of 200
newspapers, magazines and journals of the ethnic,
minority and native press. Complete articles dating
back to 1995 are available. More than 7,500 new articles
are added each month. The database is searchable
in both English and Spanish, with titles in both
languages. Ethnic NewsWatch provides in-depth coverage
of a wide range of current and historical topics.
ICPSR
Direct
University faculty, students, and staff may download
social science research data sets from the ICPSR
(Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social
Research) website. Data includes General Social Survey
data, election data, census data, world and European
values surveys, criminal justice data, substance
abuse/mental health data, education data, aging data,
health/medical care data, and more.
IngentaConnect
Ingenta (previously UnCover) is
an online journal article delivery service, a table
of contents database, a current awareness alerting
service, and a keyword index with author and article
title access points to more than 28,000 interdisciplinary
journals. Coverage is 1988 to the present. For Southwestern
community only.*
JSTOR:
Journal Storage Collection Online
An electronic archive of scholarly journals from
the humanities, social sciences, and the natural
sciences. Each of the 100+ titles is an essential
or primary one for its field. The JSTOR database
is unique because the complete backfiles of core
scholarly journals (excluding the most recent five
years) have been digitized, starting with the first
issues, many of which date back to the 1800s. Users
can browse the complete table of contents for every
volume and issue, or search for words or phrases
in the full text of the article, author and abstracts.
JSTOR
displays articles in page-image format.
PsycINFO
1887
PsycINFOê contains citations and summaries of journal
articles, book chapters, books, dissertations and
technical reports, all in the field of psychology
and related areas. Journal coverage, which dates
back to the 1800s, includes international material
selected from more than 1,700 periodicals in over
30 languages.

International Digital Electronic
Access Library
An online journal service with access to 200 or more
peer-reviewed scientific and social sciences journals,
all published by Academic Press. Beginning with the
1996 issues, users can browse the complete table
of contents for every volume and issue, or search
these seven specific fields: subject, abstract, affiliation,
author, date, keywords and article title. ScienceDirect
reproduces the full journal articles on screen as
they appear in the printed paper version. Requires
Adobe Acrobat software.

Sciences Abstracts
International, English-language periodicals in sociology,
anthropology, geography, economics, political science,
and law. Some full text entries.
SocINDEX with Full Text
The world's most comprehensive and highest quality sociology
research database. The database features more than 1,660,000
records with subject headings from a 19,300 term sociological
thesaurus designed by subject experts and expert lexicographers.
SocINDEX with Full Text contains full text for 344 "core"
coverage journals dating back to 1895, and 129 "priority"
coverage journals. This database also includes full text for
more than 700 books and monographs, and full text for 6,800
conference papers.
Women's
Studies International
Includes over 200,000 citations from 10 different
women's studies- related databases, some dating back
as far as 1972. Updated semi- annually. Women's Resources
International (along with the Child Abuse and Neglect
Database) is available through BiblioLine. At the
first screen, read the brief instructions, then select
Women's Resources International.
Choose "BiblioLine Lite" for simple searching or "BiblioLine
Professional" for more complex searches.
Social Sciences Index
REFERENCE, 1st floor Index tables
Volume 1-, June 1974-present.
The printed edition of Social Sciences Index indexes
over 400 periodicals. The body of the Index consists
of author and subject entries in the fields of sociology,
anthropology and related subjects. There is a separate
listing of citations to book reviews following the
main body of the Index.

A printed collection of nonevaluative abstracts of

Index
The Index covers all fields of interest to demographers,
including fertility, mortality, population size and
growth, migration, nuptiality and the family, research
methodology, projections and predictions, historical
demography, and demographic and economic interrelations.
