WDI Online: World Development Indicators
WDI Online is a data source on the global economy, containing statistical data for over 550 development indicators, and time series data from 1960-2002 for over 200 countries and 18 country groups. Included are social, economic, financial, natural resource, and environmental indicators. Results can be scaled, indexed against a particular year, viewed by percentage change, and charted. Data can be exported in standard formats like Excel.*For Southwestern community only.

American Demographics Magazine
American Demographics magazine tracks consumer trends. The magazine may be accessed through the multidisciplinary database Academic Search Elite. Current issues are available in Periodical Services.

American FactFinder
A great source for population, housing, economic and geographic data. Also includes popular tables and maps for the U.S., states, counties, cities, towns, and American Indian reservations.

Fast Facts
By Gary Price, this site provides statistics on any subject or country. At the bottom of the page is Gary Price’s Excellent List of Lists, a database of ranked listings of companies, people and resources freely available on the Internet. Sample lists include Top Ten Cities for Hispanics, 100 Best Companies for Working Women, Top 100-Employee Owned Companies and Best Business Schools.

FedStats
A good beginning point to any statistical research project, FedStats helps you locate which agency in the government might have collected information on your topic. The site points to data from over one hundred federal statistical sites.

Fedstats-Mapstats
An offshoot of Fedstats, Mapstats is organized by state and county. Gives basic information on agriculture, population, business, crime, education, energy, etc.

Information Please Almanac
This site includes world and U.S. information, history and government, biography, sports, arts and entertainment, business and finance, society and culture, health and science, and weather.

Population Reference Bureau
Gives information on topics such as children, education, estimates/projections, fertility, foreign-born citizens, income/poverty, labor/employment, marriage/family, migration, mortality, older population and race/ethnicity.

State Health Facts Online
Developed and maintained by the Kaiser Family Foundation, this site offers current state-level data on demographics, health, health policy, financing health coverage, access and state legislation.

Statistical Abstract of the United States (Adobe Acrobat required)
A great starting place for locating important national statistics. The annual Statistical Abstract includes data from private as well as government sources. It covers a wide range of topics. The current print edition of Statistical Abstracts, which includes a subject index, is available at Reference 317.3 Un3s.

Statistical Resources on the Web
Maintained by the government documents center at the University of Michigan Library, this metasite links to pages containing statistics for just about any topic.

Government Department Statistics

Bureau of Justice Statistics
A United States Department of Justice site for statistics on crimes, victims, drugs, criminal offenders, law enforcement prosecution, etc. Publications available on the web site and in print in Reference include: Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics, Crime in the United States: Uniform Crime Reports for the United States and Correctional Populations in the United States.

Bureau of Labor Statistics
The Bureau collects and publishes labor-related statistics and reports. The BLS also publishes Monthly Labor Review, a journal that gives a wide variety of labor statistics. Current issues may be found in the Business and Economic section of Periodical Services.

Bureau of the Census
The Census Bureau covers, among other topics: population, housing, retail and wholesale sales, income, state and local area profiles, and service industries and manufacturing.

National Center for Education Statistics
NCES collects national and international statistics. The Condition of Education, Digest of Education Statistics, and Projections of Educational Statistics, all major NCES statistical annuals, can be accessed electronically from the NCES web site.

National Center for Health Statistics
The NCHS web site provides a wealth of information about America’s health. Health, United States is an annual publication that provides a profile of figures of the nation’s health. The print publication is available at Reference 362.1 H349.

International Statistics

OFFSTATS: Official Statistics on the Web
Developed by the University of Auckland, this site provides statistical data by country and topic, linking the user to recognized international organizations, governments, and educational institutions that provide freely accessible data.

State of the World Population
This site releases annually the State of the World Population Report, highlighting global hunger and poverty, HIV/AIDS, gender discrimination, child mortality, development goals and guide to action.

United Nations InfoNation (then click on the "InfoNation" link)
This site enables users to compare statistical data pertaining to UN member states.

World Development Indicators (CD-ROM)
This is an annual compilation of data about development from World Bank’s print publication,World Development Indicators. The WDI 2003 CD-ROM, located in Reference Services, contains time-series indicators for 208 countries and 18 country groups, covering 1960 to 2001.World Development Indicators 2003 can be found at Reference 330.9 W893.
