RefWorks is a web-based bibliographic management tool. You can use RefWorks to:
Create a database of citations for a research project.
Format in-text citations, footnotes and endnotes.
Organize your citations in a variety of ways.
Share your references with other students or faculty.
Format bibliographies automatically. RefWorks supports various citation formats, including APA, Chicago, MLA, Turabian, Harvard, and many more.
Import records directly into RefWorks from selected databases, including Academic Search Complete, JSTOR, Voyager Catalog, Google Scholar, WorldCat and others.
Insert bibliographic references from your RefWorks database into a Microsoft Word document.
First Time User?
To use RefWorks, you'll first need to create an account; please note that this initial registration needs to be done from a computer on the Southwestern network. The service is free for current students, faculty and staff because of a campus-wide license agreement.
1. Go to RefWorks.

2. Click on "Sign up for an individual account."
3. Complete the "New User Information" and select your own login and password.
4. Click on "Register." You will receive an e-mail confirmation with information about your login and password.
Already have a RefWorks account?
Once you've created your account, you can access RefWorks from anywhere on campus or off campus. If you are off campus, just be sure to access RefWorks from the campus portal, mySouthwestern.
