This page is intended to introduce a few select resources, both on the Web and in the Smith Library Center print collection, that are particularly useful for the study of Physics.


INDEXES

Academic Search Complete
A multi-disciplinary, full text database designed specifically for academic institutions that includes full text for over 2,940 scholarly publications abstracts and indexing for nearly 3,930 scholarly journals with many dating back to 1984. Full-page images, as well as color embedded images are included. Through EBSCOhost.

ArticleFirst
Contains bibliographic citations that describe items listed on the table of contents pages of approximately 12,600 journals in science, technology, medicine, social sciences, business, the humanities, and popular culture.

arXiv (arxiv.org)
Provided by Cornell University, this database provides open access to at least 593,662 e-prints in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Quantitative Biology, Quantitative Finance and Statistics.

Journal of Geophysical Research, All Sections
This site provides full-text access to articles published in the Journal of Geophysical Research from 1994 to the most recent issue. On the JOURNALS list, click on the specific section of JGR wanted (Example: JGR-Atmospheres) then under LIBRARY ACCESS chose either "Published this year" or "Back issues from 1994."

PROLA (Physical Review OnLine Archive)
Indexes and provides full-text to all American Physical Society journal material published from 1893 to present; includes Physical Review sections A-E, Physical Review Letters, Reviews of Modern Physics, and other information.


REFERENCE WORKS

To find printed reference material relevant to your topic start with the library's online catalog. Do a Reference Materials search using keywords to describe your topic. You can also check the library's Web pages for subject guides for specific topics to find other suggested sources.

Macmillan Encyclopedia of Physics
REFERENCE, 1st floor 530.03 M268
Intended for a broad range of readers. The various subdisciplines and branches of physics are included, as well as entries on the history of physics focusing on particular concepts and theories. Select biographies are also included.

A quick reference aid for students and professionals in the physical sciences and engineering. It contains around 2000 of the most useful formulas and equations found in undergraduate physics courses, covering mathematics, dynamics and mechanics, quantum physics, thermodynamics, solid state physics, electromagnetism, optics and astrophysics.

The Physics Handbook: Fundamentals and Key Equations
2nd floor 530.02 P785p
Covers key equations and fundamental principles in physics at an advanced level. Serves as a one-stop reference for industrial or academic physicists.

The American Institute of Physics produces a weekly digest of physics news items arising from physics meetings, physics journals, newspapers and magazines, and other news sources, and is updated approximately once a week.

arXiv.org Eprint Server
This site is a fully automated electronic archive and distribution server for research papers in physics and related disciplines, mathematics, nonlinear sciences, computational linguistics, and neuroscience.

BUBL LINK Catalogue of Selected Internet Resources: Physics
Selected Internet resources catalogued according to Dewey Decimal Classification. This site provides access by specific physics classification areas to pertinent web sites. The sites are selected and evaluated, as well as updated monthly.

College Physics for students of Biology and Chemistry
A hypertextbook written for first-year undergraduate physics students by Kenneth R. Koehler.

Contributions of 20th Century Women to Physics
Archival database focusing on the contributions of women to physics.

Eric Weisstein's Treasure Trove of Physics
Excellent site for anyone needing definitions of physics terms.

Famous Physicists
Yahoo's who's who in physics metasite.

Journal of High Energy Physics (JHEP)
A refereed journal written, run, and distributed by electronic means.

New Journal of Physics
Electronic journal published by the Institute of Physics.

Nobel Laureates in Physics, 1901-2003
As stated by the site ... "This page is a service of the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center Library. It contains a list in reverse chronological order of the award winners with brief biographical information and a description of the discovery taken from the Nobel Foundation's text describing each Laureate's discovery and other sources."

Everything you ever wanted to know about strings ... Highly informative and enjoyable, this website offers something for everyone, from layperson to specialist.

Physics Central
Comprehensive clearinghouse of physics information maintained by the American Physics Society.

This site is a physics resource dedicated to promoting physics not only to scientists, but also to industry, schools, students, and anyone interested in physics and natural science.
