This page is intended to introduce a few select resources, both on the Web and in the Smith Library Center print collection, that are particularly useful for the study of Philosophy.


INDEXES

The Philosopher's Index
Covers the areas of ethics, aesthetics, social philosophy, political philosophy, epistemology, and metaphysic logic as well as material on the philosophy of law, religion, science, history, education, and language.

ARTstor
The ARTstor image database is a searchable collection of downloadable high quality digital images for education and scholarship. The database documents artistic and historical traditions across many time periods and cultures. ARTstor is designed for researchers, teachers and students. Users can download individual images or use the ARTstor Offline Image Viewer to build a presentation using ARTstor images, arrange and caption the images, and deliver the presentation in the classroom.[ More infomation about using ARTstor.]

ATLA Religion Database with ATLASerials
Database from the American Theological Library Association, includes more than one million bibliographic records covering such topics as biblical studies, world religions, church history, and religious perspectives on social issues.

Arts & Humanities Search
Indexes more than 1,300 of the word's leading arts and humanities journals.

JSTOR: Journal Storage Collection Online
Access to the complete back files of almost 100 full-text scholarly journals with a heavy emphasis on the humanities and social sciences.

Project MUSE
Provides full image journal articles in the humanities and social sciences.

Women's Studies International
Includes over 200,000 citations from 10 different women's studies-related databases. Search here if you are focusing on women and philosophy.


REFERENCE WORKS

To find printed reference material relevant to your topic start with the library's online catalog. Do a Reference Materials search using keywords to describe your topic. You can also check the library's Web pages for subject guides for specific topics to find other suggested sources.

A very comprehensive and well-organized collection of online philosophy resources maintained by Peter Suber from Earlham College. Features include the Hippias and Noesis search engines for finding quality philosophy-related resources on the Web.

EpistemeLinks.com: philosophy resources on the Internet
Another comprehensive site from which to start your search for philosophy resources on the Web. This frequently updated site includes thousands of sorted links to philosophy resources on the Internet.

Stanford encyclopedia of philosophy
A work in progress - many of the assigned entries have not yet been written - designed as a dynamic reference work, i.e., each entry is maintained and kept up to date by an expert or group of experts in the field. Updates are refereed by the members of a distinguished Editorial Board before they are made public. Consequently, it is responsive to new research, for it can change at any time with new additions or modifications.

The Internet encyclopedia of philosophy
Articles in the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy are currently from three sources: original contributions by specialized philosophers around the internet, adaptations of material written by the editors for classroom purposes, and adaptations from public domain sources (typically from two or more sources for per article).

20th WCP: paideia project on-line
The most outstanding feature of this site is an archive of papers from the 1998 Twentieth World Congress of Philosophy. Over 900 full text papers are available.

Ethics Updates
Designed primarily to be used by ethics instructors and their students. The site's purpose is to provide updates on current literature, both popular and professional, that relates to ethics.
