"a database produced by health-related agencies of the Federal Government. This database provides titles, abstracts, and availability information for health information and health education resources."

Healthfinder
A service of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Health and Wellness Resource Center
An electronic resource center for all levels of health research. Provides access to full-text medical reference and periodical materials. Includes information about access to key health Web sites. *Southwestern community only.

Health Reference Center-Academic

(INFOTRAC interface) Search for health information since 1996. *Southwestern community only. This site works best with Internet Explorer.

Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition
Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition contains over 450 full text journals, with indexing and abstracts available for over 500 journals. The database focuses on many medical disciplines, with particularly strong coverage of nursing and allied health. The database will also contain the USP Pharmacopoeia DI: Volume II Advice for the Lay Patient, and Stedman's Medical Dictionary. *Southwestern community only.

ICPSR Direct
University faculty, students, and staff may download social science research data sets from the ICPSR (Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research) website. Data includes General Social Survey data, election data, census data, world and European values surveys, criminal justice data, substance abuse/mental health data, education data, aging data, health/medical care data, and more.

IDEAL: International Digital Electronic Access Library now ScienceDirect
Access to 174 full-text Academic Press journals in the natural and social sciences. Requires Adobe Acrobat software. For Southwestern community only.*

Search MEDLINE with PubMed, a service of the National Library of Medicine, providing access to over 12 million MEDLINE citations back to the mid-1960's and additional life science journals. PubMed includes links to many sites providing full text articles and other related resources.

National Library of Medicine provides access to multiple retrieval systems with NLM Gateway. The current Gateway searches MEDLINE/PubMed, OLDMEDLINE, LOCATORplus, MEDLINEplus, ClinicalTrials.gov, DIRLINE, Meeting Abstracts, and HSRProj.

ScienceDirect formerly IDEAL: International Digital Electronic Access Library
An online journal service with access to 200 or more peer-reviewed scientific and social sciences journals, all published by Academic Press. Beginning with the 1996 issues, users can browse the complete table of contents for every volume and issue, or search these seven specific fields: subject, abstract, affiliation, author, date, keywords and article title. ScienceDirect reproduces the full journal articles on screen as they appear in the printed paper version. Requires Adobe Acrobat software.


REFERENCE WORKS

In interdisciplinary fields such as Health, resources in many different subject areas will be useful. To find printed reference material relevant to your topic start with the library's online catalog. Do a Reference Materials search using keywords to describe your topic. You can also check the library's Web pages for subject guides for specific topics to find other suggested sources.
