by Department
Acquisitions Services: Office environment.
Heavy computer use, searching requested titles and authors in
Voyager or on vendor websites. Requires high degree of skill and
accuracy to prevent duplicate purchases and other budget-related
problems. Also lifting and unpacking boxes of books, signing for
deliveries. Special projects as assigned using Excel, Word, or
the Internet. Hours are within M-F 8-5.

Administration: Office environment.
Provide support to the administration offices for the library.
Must be competent in computer use, Internet research, and word
processing or spreadsheet software. Assists with preparing time
sheets and various other tasks as assigned. Hours are within M-F
8-5.
Audio/Visual Services: Public Service area. Deliver,
setup, troubleshoot, and operate computer projection systems,
video systems, and other audiovisual equipment (some bending and
lifting may be required). Provide customer assistance at the Audiovisual
Services Center, Media Library, and Graphics Lab. Must be able
to reliably follow detailed instructions and procedures without
direct supervision. Basic computer troubleshooting skills and/or
familiarity with video editing software preferred. Weekend and
night work will be expected. Hours include nights/weekends.
Automation Services: Office environment.
Assist in the management of the Library's Voyager system as well
as the library website. Duties include creating, editing and proofing
web content, checking the site for invalid links, and other incidental
duties necessary to maintain the integrity of the website and
the Voyager system. Will also be responsible for daily monitoring
of the Imac computers and be responsible for taking the library
system's back-up tapes to and from the library on a daily basis.
Clerical duties in the department include filing, copying, and
other routine clerical jobs. Qualifications and Skill Requirements:
Familiarity with computers and computer systems, preferably Mac
and/or PC environments. Experience with HTML and/or website editing
software such as Dreamweaver and experience with UNIX would be
ideal, but not essential.Looking for dependable and self-motivated
individuals. Hours are within M-F 8-5.
Cataloging Services:
Office environment. Involves processing books, CDs, DVDs, videos,
etc., that have been cataloged, including applying stamps, security
strips, call number labels, plastic covers, and laminated covers,
as well as changing status of materials. Some book repair and
utilization of in-house binding machine involved. Occasional computer
use for OPAC searches and other research. Assist with library
displays. Some special projects. Requires attention to detail.
Hours are within M-F 8-5.
Circulation Services:
Public Service area. Circulation Services student assistants must
possess the ability to work effectively and responsibly with library
patrons in a public service environment. Students work at the
Circulation desk, and in the library stacks. Desk and stack duties
include: check library materials out to patrons and process returns,
load book trucks, answer the phone, monitor the security system,
answer general informational questions about the library, re-shelve
items, maintain order in the stacks, conduct electronic inventory,
and other duties as assigned.
Computer skills are required. Hours will include nights/weekends.
Coffee Bar: Public
Service area. Duties include, but are not limited to: brew coffee
and prepare other beverages, staff the counter, operate the cash
register, clean up. Must be a quick learner and good with people. Hours will include nights/weekends.

Periodicals Services: Public service area. Professional
and courteous demeanor required to answer questions, and refer
patrons to librarians when necessary. Computer skills required
both for assisting patrons and various projects within the department.
Knowledge of databases and other library automation systems is
especially useful. Required to use and maintain photocopiers,
laser printer, pirate card reader, and microfilm copiers. Responsible
for cashbox, taking payments, and making change. Some bending
and lifting will be required, along with the ability to climb
step-ladders. Must be able to work independently. Possible projects
include shelf reading and shifting, updating Excel spreadsheets,
clerical tasks, weeding/watering library courtyard, and other
projects as assigned. Must be able to work independently. Punctuality
and regular attendance critical. Hours will include nights/weekends.
Reference/Interlibrary Loan:
Public Service area. All duties performed in a highly visible
public service area. All students must have a good public service
attitude and like working with people in an academic library.
They must be hardworking, reliable, have a good eye for details
and be comfortable with change and technology. All students must
work during finals (half time).
Reference students provide general reference services
at the reference desk; answer directional questions and provide
some assistance with simple searches during week-end and late evening
hours. Reshelve reference materials, do shelf reading and work on
special projects as assigned by the librarian. Hours will include
nights/weekends.
Interlibrary Loan students assist in the lending and borrowing
processes of the department. Students will identify items requested
by other libraries, locate and pull items, perform check-in and
check-out procedures on both circulation and interlibrary loan software
systems and either package items for mailing using multiple delivery
methods or scan articles using various transmission software products.
Students will also process items returned to our library or received
for our patrons. Attention to detail is a must. This position requires
heavy computer use with multiple ILL software products and the operation
of scanner/fax equipment. Students are expected to be able to work
independently once trained. Hours will include nights/weekends.
Special Collections:
Public Service and Office environment. High level of responsibility
and skill as students handle rare and valuable materials. Significant
training required in order to create exhibits, process archival
collections, and assist with conservation activities. Others tasks
include retrieving materials for patrons, shelving, photocopying,
scanning, searching, database entry, and indexing manuscript collections.
Computer/scanner/web skills desirable. Hours are within 9:30 -
4:30 M-F.
