Reserve
Collection Guidelines for Faculty
Material for which high demand is anticipated
may be placed on reserve. Two hour, overnight,
and 1 day items are shelved in the reserve
area located behind the Circulation Services
desk. Two hour desk reserve items may
not be taken from the library. Two hour/overnight
items circulate for two hours during
most library hours but may be checked
out for overnight use two hours before
the library closes and are due within
the first hour after the library opens
the next day. Three and seven day reserves
are shelved in the stacks on the second
and third floors of the library.
Placing material on reserve
- Please complete a Reserve Request
form for each course in which you are
placing items on Reserve. You may access
and print
copies of the forms here:
Reserve
Request - Photocopies
Reserve
Request - Books & Audiovisual Materials
Copies of the forms are also available at the Circulation
Desk or call x1563 to request that copies be sent
through campus mail.
- In order to avoid confusion, the
title used on the reserve form for
an item must be consistent with the
title information provided to your
students.
- Please allow at least 3 days for
Circulation Services to process reserve
material. We make every effort to process
material in as timely a manner as possible
and most items are on the shelf within
less than 24 hours. However, at certain
times during the academic year we receive
a high volume of material and delays
may be unavoidable. All items will
be processed in the order in which
they are received.
- Photocopied items that will be used
beyond a single semester may require
securing copyright permission. In order
to allow enough time to secure permission
please submit these materials to Circulation
Services by August 15 for Fall semester
use, and by December 15 for Spring
semester use.
- Items which can be placed on reserve
are: library or personal copies of
books, videotapes, audiotapes, compact
discs, and other materials as determined
on an individual basis. The library
cannot assume responsibility for damage
or loss of personal copies by students.
Photocopies of journal articles and
chapters of books may be placed on
reserve when determined to be in compliance
with copyright law (see Reserve
Collection Guidelines: Copyright).
- Items which cannot be placed on reserve
are: photocopies which do not meet
copyright compliance, materials borrowed
from other libraries, interlibrary
loan materials or rental materials.
At the end of each semester you will
receive a list of the items currently
placed on reserve in your name. Please
indicate by each item whether you want
that title removed from reserve or retained
for the following semester. Personal
materials can be picked up at Circulation
Services or returned to you through campus
mail upon request. In order to
ensure compliance with copyright law
all photocopied material will be removed
from reserve at the end of each semester.
