Development and Acquisitions Department
Choice Reviews Online Faculty may search and email book reviews from
Choice Reviews Online to their library bibliographer to request that the library purchase the items. The new Choice search interface allows faculty and librarians to set up accounts and receive monthly emails with reviews of new books that match specified criteria.
Department Overview
The Collection Development and Acquisitions
Department coordinates the efforts of
the librarians and
faculty who work together to build the
library's print, media, and electronic
collections. The department is responsible
for overseeing the building of a balanced
collection that is responsive to university
needs, and for acquiring and receiving
print monographs and standing orders
as well as media and electronic resources
for the library. Collection analysis
and retrospective collection building
are also coordinated by this department.
Working to see that the library's collection
meets the needs of the campus is a cooperative
effort. All members of the Southwestern
University community are welcome to suggest
new titles for the collection or to communicate
with the head of the department about
general collection needs. We welcome online
book requests from Southwestern faculty, staff and students.
The library's Collection
Development Policy outlines what
the library will and will not add to
its collections. New and established
faculty alike should review that document
as well as the library's Acquisitions Procedures for Faculty.
We invite you to stop by the department
during our open hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Monday through Friday.
