      VHS VCR Most VCRs have the capability of visually scanning through a videotape to locate specific scenes. Handheld wireless VCR remote controls are available on request. VCRs are only available in combination with a television or projector. In order to ensure that the university does not promote the unlawful copying of videotapes, standalone VCRs are not available for loan or rental.

      DVD Player DVD players are available by reservation for connection to most classroom televisions in lieu of the standard VHS VCR. Handheld wireless remote controls are available for DVD players on request.

      TV/DVD/VHS Cart TV Carts include 27" TV and a DVD/VCR deck. They are available for delivery to most rooms on campus. Since most classrooms have DVD/VCRs and projectors installed, TV Carts will only be delivered to classrooms in the case of equipment failure.

      TV/VCR Combo This all-in-one unit contains a 13" TV and a VCR. While these are more portable than TV carts, they not suitable for viewing by groups. Supply is very limited.

      Document Camera A document camera is used to present hard copy documents, graphics, and small objects to a large audience. It is similar to an opaque projector in that the item to be projected does not need to be transparent. Most campus electronic classrooms are equipped with document cameras. Portable document cameras are available by reservation from Audiovisual Services. A television or video projector is required to view the images from a document camera.

      Camcorder with Tripod VHS and MiniDV camcorders are available. They can be used to record video and audio in classrooms and elsewhere on campus. A small tripod, power supply, and one battery are included with each camcorder.
      The camcorder user must furnish a blank tape for use with the camcorder
      . Blank VHS videocassettes can be purchased from the Campus Bookstore
      AV Services does not charge the batteries so if you need to use batteries please plan for enough time to charge them. Camcorders may be powered from the wall rather than using the battery.
      Camcorders must be checked out from the library Circulation Desk. Audiovisual Services does not provide operators for camcorders. Please see the Video Production page if your videotaping will require an operator.
      Video tapes may be edited at Audiovisual Services. Please see the Video Production page for more information.

      Light Kit The light kit is available for significant video projects (i.e. capstone or King Creativity Fund) for up to one week. The kit includes 1 Lowel Tota light, 2 Lowel Omni lights, and all necessary stands and cables.

      Audio Cassette Tape Recorder Audiocassette recorders are available for checkout on a first come, first served basis at the Circulation Desk of audiocassettethe Smith Library Center. No reservation is necessary. Each cassette recorder is equipped with a built-in microphone and speaker and can be used to record and playback standard audiocassettes. Power is provided by a cord that plugs into the wall or by batteries furnished by the user. Blank audiocassettes are available for purchase from the Campus Bookstore

      Digital Audio Recorder The Digital Audio Recorder has a built-in microphone and can store over 100 hours of recorded audio. The quality is good for speech, but not good for music.
      After recording, it an be plugged directly into a PC. The audio files can then be copied to the PC for listening, editing, burning to CD, etc.

      LCD Projector An LCD projector can be used to project the output from computer, VCR or DVD player. It comes with the cables necessary to connect to a computer and DVD player or VCR. Quantities are very limited.

      LCD Projection Cart Carts with a LCD projector, computer, VCR/DVD and speakers are available by reservation. They are able to display PowerPoint presentations, DVD or VHS videos, etc. Handheld wireless remotes, which feature a wireless mouse are included.       Network connections for access to the Web or Internet are available in most rooms on campus.

      Slide Projector (35mm) Slide projectors are available by reservation, although some classrooms have permanently located projectors. See Classroom Audiovisual Equipment for a list of classrooms with permanently installed slide projectors. 35mm slide projectors are generally equipped with a wired remote control for changing slides.       Overhead Projector Virtually all Southwestern classrooms are equipped with an overhead projector and projection screen for the presentation of transparencies. Most classroom overhead projectors have a spare lamp switch that enables the user to change to a secondary lamp should the primary lamp burn out. Spare lamp switches may be located on the front, side, or bottom of the projector as indicated by a label on the projector. Please call (512) 863-1666 to report burned out bulbs.

      Projection Screen All classrooms have a screen installed. Some other places on campus do as well. 60", 70" and 96" tripod screens are available($15-$25 for non-Southwestern). A 7.5'x10' and a 10.5'x14' fastfold screen, capable of front or rear projection are available as well ($50 for non-Southwestern).
