If you want to setup a personal homepage you must create a folder in your home directory on the server. The following link will walk you through that process. https://www.southwestern.edu/cgi-bin/services/wwwsetup.cgi.
All web documents will be placed in the folder /public_html/. Consider this your personal web space.
Transferring files to your web space using WSFTP
1. Open WSFTP for Windows
2. Fill in the following:
* Host Name/Address: ftp.southwestern.edu
* Host type: Automatic detect
* UserID: your_login_name
* Password: your_password
3. Click OK
4. Once connected, double click to open the public_html folder on the remote system side of the window to set the path to /home/yourname/public_html
5. Locate the folder or files you want to transfer by changing the directory path on the local system side of the window. For example, if the files you want to transfer are located on the desktop, you will click on ChgDir and type in c:/windows/desktop
6. Highlight the file or folder you want to transfer to the public_html folder on ‘ralph’ and click the right arrow to perform the transfer.
Transferring files to your space using Fetch
1. Open Fetch for Macintosh
2. Fill in the following:
* Host: ftp.southwestern.edu
* UserID: your_login_name
* Password: your_password
1. Click OK
2. Double click on the public_html folder to open
3. Drag and drop the folder or files you want to transfer
