To connect to the SECURE Pirate Wireless Network you will need to adjust some settings on your laptop.The settings will only need to be done once, and then you will be able to connect to the wireless network anywhere it exists on campus. NOTE: The residential hall (Apogee) wireless network is not considered part of the Pirate network.

The wireless network pirate, used by students, faculty and staff for access to the Internet and secure access to the campus intranet, is not compatible with the wireless authentication built into the 1st generation iPhone. Pirate is configured to use 802.1x authentication via PEAP, and the iPhone does not currently support PEAP.

There is an open, publicly accessible network on campus named su-public, but its coverage is restricted to the Smith Library Center, 1st floor and the McCombs Campus Center, 1st floor. The iPhone can connect to this network with no configuration necessary.

1. Open a browser to https://webmail.southwestern.edu

2. Login with your User ID and Password

3. From the left navigation bar, click the “+” next to MY Account and then select Password.

4. Enter your old password followed by a new password that meets the security requirements for a University password at Southwestern.

IMPORTANT for FACULTY AND STAFF: When changing your password in Webmail, both e-mail and Helios passwords are changed. These password changes also affect logging into office desktop or laptop computer. Please follow these instructions to change your Windows or Macintosh password to the new password that you created.

If you have an XBox 360 in your room on campus and want to use it on the network, you need to provide Apogee with the MAC address. Here’s how to find it:

• Open the Xbox Guide by pressing the Xbox Guide button on your controller. This is the silver button in the center of the controller with a green “X” on it.
• Now press the Y button to enter the Xbox 360 Dashboard.
• In the Dashboard, go to System.
• Select Network Settings and then select Edit Settings.
• Select Additional Settings.
• Select Advanced Settings.
• At the bottom of the screen you’ll see Wired MAC Address. This is what you want to write down and give to Apogee.

Problem:
Occasionally, Microsoft Windows fails to run the Mozilla Thunderbird process using its long filename. Since the names of the processes allowed to send data through TCP Port 25 are hardcoded into the McAfee preferences, this deviation from the normal setup is not allowed by default.

Summary:
Add the DOS 8.2 filename for thunderbird.exe into the McAfee preferences.

Procedure:

1. Right-click on the McAfee System Tray icon → Select VirusScan Console…
2. Double-click Access Protection.
3. Select Prevent mass mailing worms from sending mail. Be sure not to uncheck this box.
4. Click on the Edit button.
5. Add a comma at the end of the text box at the bottom of the window and then add THUNDE~1.exe. DO NOT PUT A SPACE BETWEEN THIS AND THE PREVIOUS ENTRY.
6. Click OK.
7. Click OK.
8. Close the VirusScan Console window.

After this has been completed, you should be able to send e-mail again from Thunderbird.

It is possible to connect the Microsoft Xbox, Sony Playstation 2, and Nintendo Gamecube to the Residential Network to play online games. Like a computer, each of these devices has an adapter address that must be registered with Apogee for the device to have access to the network.
