To use Southwestern’s ldap (directory) server in Thunderbird, do the following:
- Go to the Tools menu and pull to Options. (On a Mac, go to the Thunderbird menu and pull to Preferences.
- In the Preferences (or Options) click on Composing.
- Check the box for Directory Services and click on the button, Edit Directories.
- In the small window that opens up, click on Add.
- A window with three tabs will open up. In the General tab, give the directory a name of your choosing where it ways Name.
- For Hostname, enter ldap.southwestern.edu.
- For Base search, enter o=Southwestern University.
- The Port number should already read 389.
- Click on OK, then on OK again.
- Click on OK one more time and the Options (or Preferences) should go away.
You should now have the university directory tied to Thunderbird so you can better look up email addresses.
