ITS Helpdesk will be changing the way in which users FTP files into HELIOS, on June the 27th, 2005. This will affect everyone who does file transfers using a FTP program such as WS FTP95.

When you log in as normal, instead of seeing “/home/USERNAME” you will only see a forward slash “/”

Once you have logged into the “/” directory, you will see all of your HELIOS files. Your username and password will remain unchanged.

With the release of Apple’s Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), there are some software incompatibilities to note. First, SPSS 11 is not compatible. It will not launch. We are talking with SPSS about the availability of a patch.

Second, McAfee’s Virex 7.6 is also incompatible. The background scans of your computer never stop running and take up *way* too much of the processor’s resources. This is especially hard on laptops as this causes your battery to drain extremely fast. Unlike in the case of SPSS, the older release of Virex does work. You can download Virex 7.2 here.
