Image from Chillingham Bull Woodblock Engraved by Thomas Bewick

Lightly penciled twice on the back in Thomson's hand is the note: "This is one of the rare vellum impressions." This print was originally part of the D. Croal Thomson collection of Thomas Bewick works. The engraving was inserted in Bewick's proof pulls of the History of Quadrupeds (for the large paper edition of 25 copies). Bewick gave the copy to his son, but it was eventually sold by Bewick's daughter to a Rev. W. T. Kingsley, who noted the details of the sale. Thomas Bewick was a noted English wood engraver, artist, and naturalist.
