Document Camera

A document camera is used to present hard copy imagedocuments, graphics, and small objects to a large audience with a data projector (or TV). Most campus electronic classrooms are equipped with document cameras. Portable document cameras are available by reservation from Audiovisual Services.

Camcorder with Tripod

Tapeless HD camcorders are available. They can be used to record video and audio in classrooms and elsewhere on campus. A small tripod, power supply, and one battery are included with each camcorder.

AV Services does not recharge the batteries so if you need to use batteries please plan for enough time to charge them.

Camcorders may be powered from the wall rather than using the battery.
Camcorders must be checked out from the InfoDesk in the Smith Library Center. Audiovisual Services does not provide operators for camcorders. Please see the Video Production page if your videotaping will require an operator.
Video editing assistance is available.  Please contact the Video Specialist for more information.

Digital Audio Recorder imageThe Digital Audio Recorder has a built-in microphone and can store over 100 hours of recorded audio. The quality is good for speech, but not good for music.
After recording, it an be plugged directly into a PC. The audio files can then be copied to the PC for listening, editing, burning to CD, etc.

LCD Projection Cart imageCarts with a LCD projector, computer, VCR/DVD and speakers are available by reservation. They are able to display PowerPoint presentations, DVD or VHS videos, etc. Handheld wireless remotes, which feature a wireless mouse are included. Some carts have document cameras - if you need one, please let us know.

Overhead Projector Virtually all Southwestern classrooms are equipped with an imageoverhead projector and projection screen for the presentation of transparencies. Most classroom overhead projectors have a spare lamp switch that enables the user to change to a secondary lamp should the primary lamp burn out. Spare lamp switches may be located on the front, side, or bottom of the projector as indicated by a label on the projector. Please call (512) 863-1666 to report burned out bulbs.

Projection Screen imageAll classrooms have a screen installed. Some other places on campus do as well. 60”, 70” and 96” tripod screens are available($15-$25 for non-Southwestern). A 7.5’x10’ and a 10.5’x14’ fastfold screen, capable of front or rear projection are available as well ($50 for non-Southwestern).
