About the Campaign
Southwestern University seeks gifts for current use and endowed funds to launch new initiatives and sustain the momentum of the past three decades.
Southwestern has an established track record of careful investment and effective use of resources, and will continue this responsible stewardship as it applies gifts and grants acquired during this campaign toward the objectives of the Strategic Plan for 2010.

- The Charles and Elizabeth Prothro Center for Lifelong Learning, nearing completion and slated for dedication in March, centralizes student services on campus, further connecting residential life and academic facilities.
- The Wilhelmina Cullen Admission Center opened, providing a new home for visitors and for Admission efforts while securing nationally prestigious Gold LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.
- Construction of the Dorothy Manning Lord Student Residential Center completed in addition to renovations of the Herman Brown and Moody-Shearn residence halls.
- Sarofim School of Fine Arts building renovated to refurbish the Alma Thomas Theater, adding state-of-the-art lighting, sound and stage equipment and integrating an orchestra pit. Renovations also included music rehearsal halls, a theater design studio and the expansive Walzel Lobby.

$28,000,000 to support the University’s fundamental activities during this campaign and help meet the 2010 Strategic Plan objectives.

- The Southwestern Fund supports priority needs on campus with special attention to student scholarships, faculty development, library resources and the advancement of technology in classrooms and laboratories.
- Operational base of the National Institute for Technology in Liberal Education relocated to Southwestern’s campus. Over $4 million granted by the Mellon Foundation to support the transition and operations of NITLE.
- $7.6 million in deferred estate commitments received from Southwestern alumni and friends to sustain the momentum of current programs and develop new initiatives.
