Founded in 1915, the AAUP is the most important national professional association working to defend academic freedom and faculty governance.

AAUP serves to support the traditional functions and responsibilities of our profession, encourage collegial communication among faculty from across the campus, and develop policies that ensure due process. AAUP might provide historical insight into the profession, which might be especially important for younger faculty in a changing academic environment.
In particular, we want to help evaluate the role of faculty advocacy and governance at Southwestern. AAUP serves as the primary organization to address the questions in concert with other campus institutions and organizations. Other chapters in Texas include Trinity University, Texas Tech University and San Antonio College.
Membership in the chapter is open to Southwestern University faculty members who hold academic rank, including staff with faculty rank, adjuncts and visiting faculty. We invite your participation in our inaugural year as a campus chapter. We hope to host some informal discussions and social hours over the upcoming year as we gain footing with our new chapter. For established faculty members that wish to support such efforts, we welcome donations (~$20) to help offset costs of social functions.
Please contact any officer or members regarding the nature of the AAUP and the benefits of membership.
