About the Youth Environmental Summit (Y.E.S.)

2723200150Fall 2008 Y.E.S. AttendeesFall 2008 Y.E.S. AttendeesAfter two successful years, Southwestern has decided to host its 3rd Annual Youth Environmental Summit (Y.E.S.).

This one-day event is open to all high school aged students and chaperones. We hope participants will leave with a wide range of perspectives regarding environmental issues, which in turn can be used to affect change in your personal communities and schools. Participants will have the opportunity to meet and talk with passionate college and high school activists who are working to fight climate change in Central Texas! We invite you to join us in working towards a more educated and healthy world!

10:00 – 10:30             Welcome / Registration / Coffee & Snacks
10:30 – 11:15             Various Perspectives on Environmental Issues
11:30 – 12:15             Discussion on Campus Activism, led by SEAK
12:15 – 12:30             Letter Writing to Congress
12:30 – 1:30               Lunch
1:30 – 2:30                 Concurrent Skills Trainings *
2:45 – 3:45                 Concurrent Skills Trainings *
4:00 – 4:30                 Next Steps
4:30 – 5:00                 Group Picture / Final Thoughts & Farewell

(All events will take place in the F.W. Olin Building.)

*Topics include: Campaign and Event Planning; Messaging, Framing and Working with the Media; Organizational Analysis; Starting a Group

Registration Information

Registration is FREE if you register by October 16!!  After October 16, registration will be $5 per participant.  All registered participants will receive access to all events during the day, a free lunch, and a free canvas bag.

Parking Information

All events will be held in the F.W. Olin Building.  Parking will be available in any “Faculty/Staff” parking lot or “Unrestricted” parking lot, including along Southwestern Boulevard.  Parking is labeled at the following campus map.
