GRANTS: INTERNAL SOURCES OF SUPPORT
Several sources of internal funds are available within the University to support professional development and special projects. Calls for proposals are sent out via the Campus Notices, and downloadable versions of the call are available at www.southwestern.edu/provost. Deadline dates for many of these grants are listed each year in the Faculty Handbook.
The J.S. Abercrombie Faculty Travel Fund provides faculty with travel money for attendance at professional meetings. In general, faculty may apply for funding of up to $800 for travel to a conference. Faculty are also eligible to apply for a second conference if they are a special participant.
Brown Junior Fellowships and Brown Senior Fellowships are available for tenure-track and tenured faculty. The Brown Junior and Senior Fellowships are available to support faculty scholarly research and creative works and include a reduced teaching load, as well as funding to cover expenses and a stipend.
Brown Fund for Innovation in Teaching is designed to provide support to faculty members who are interested in developing programs designed to enhance, improve, and inspire teaching at Southwestern University. This award includes money for program development, a stipend, and a reduced teaching load.
The Cullen Faculty Development Fund provides support for faculty research and faculty travel to workshops and to international conferences (Cullen Grants) and for selected curriculum revision projects (Cullen Curriculum Development Fund).
The Fleming Fund for Collaborative Research, supports programmatic collaborative research and creative works projects with faculty and students. A program is currently defined as having multiple teams of faculty and students working on (somewhat) related projects.
The William Jones Faculty Fellowship Fund supports collaborative faculty-student work.
King Creativity Fund provides up to $1500 in support for creative projects developed and carried out by students.
The William A. McMichael Enrichment Fund supports new initiatives in the student life area. Students, with faculty or staff support, are welcome to apply. Past funds have resulted in student programming, travel to student conferences, and student-selected speakers. Contact Derek Timourian for more information.
Mundy Faculty Fellowship Fund provides support for extensive summer and semester collaborative faculty-student research and creative works.
In addition, Sam Taylor Awards funded by The United Methodist Board of Higher Education & Ministry are available to faculty at Texas colleges and universities affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
