Mathematics & Computer Science Department: For Current Students: Mathematics Resources
Mathematics Resources
In addition to the resources we’ve listed on our site, you should visit Resources for Undergraduates in Mathematics available from the AMS.
MEETINGS AND CONFERENCES There are a number of meetings and conferences where undergraduates can give talks or attend to be exposed to the wider mathematical community. There is internal funding to attend these conferences: Fleming Student Travel Fund

OPPORTUNITIES AT SU
- Jones and Mundy Fellowships for individual or group undergraduate research over the summer with an SU faculty member. Deadlines are in January, so start looking for a faculty member in the Fall.
- King Creativity Fund for creative projects. In 2007, a group of students used the fund to develop a 3D interactive computer game to aid in the teaching of languages. Deadline is in October.
- Fleming Collaborative Research and Creative Works Program
SCHOLARSHIPS
- NASA MUST Scholarship for undergraduates in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
SUMMER PROGRAMS
There are many summer research programs at universities around the country. Most application deadlines are in Feb - Mar, so start looking in January!

Application advice: Your personal statement is the most important document in your application!!!! Have people read it before sending it off (maybe take it to the Debby Ellis writing center). The next most important documents are the letters of recommendation. If you want a good one, give the professor a copy of your personal statement (even in rough form), an informal resume (listing clubs you are involved in, your GPA, etc.), and any other helpful information.
SEMESTER PROGRAMS
- Budapest Semesters in Mathematics (BSM) (a program in Budapest, Hungary in English for American & Canadian undergraduates)
- Mathematics Advanced Study Semesters (MASS) a fall semester program at Penn State for junior/seniors
- The Junior Program at the Center for Women in Mathematics at Smith College a math intense semester or a year during the Junior year for female math majors
