Where to Take the French, German, and Spanish Placement Exams

The exam for these three languages is at the following url:

When you load this page, you will be prompted to enter a password. It is "pirates1"

Once you are authenticated, select the language exam you want to take from the drop-down menu and click the "Begin" button. In the registration form, fill in your last name and first name. For the id number, enter your Southwestern email user name. (This is your Southwestern email address minus the '@southwestern.edu'.) This is very import, since this is how we will ID you when we enter the results in our database. Please also take the time to fill in the information about your language background. Then proceed to the exam.

When you finish it, you will be taken to a page with your exam results. There is no time limit on the exam, though students rarely take more than 25-30 minutes to finish.

The exam is only to be taken once. Although nothing will prevent you from retaking it, each set of results is time stamped, and we will only accept the first score. If, however, something happens while you are taking the exam (your browser crashes, the power goes off, etc.) don't hesitate to retake it.

No books or outside help of any kind is to be used in this exam.
