  • Forty-one students participated in the 8-week summer research program, SCOPE, a student-faculty collaborative experience, conducting research in animal behavior, biology, chemistry/biochemistry, kinesiology, math/computer science, and physics.

  • Southwestern’s Math capstone students will present at the 9th annual Texas Undergraduate Math Conference between October 25-26 at St. Mary’ University in San Antonio.

  • Throughout the 2012-2013 academic year, 14 travel grants were awarded to students to present their independent research in animal behavior, biology, chemistry, and mathematics at conferences and scientific meetings all over the country.

  • In May 2013, 19 faculty met for the Inquiry Initiative Pedagogical Workshop to develop new inquiry-based learning modules for courses in all divisions.

  • Dr. Emily Niemeyer, director of the Inquiry Initiative and professor of chemistry, was honored by GirlStart as a Game Changer, honoring women leaders in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math).
