Acclaimed Scupltor and GLCA NY Arts Program Director, Alvin Sher, will be on campus April 10, 2008 to provide information and answer questions! An Information Session will be held on April 20, 2008 in the Roy Shilling Room of the McCombs Campus Center from 12:00-1:00.
**To attend you must contact Career Services at x1671!** About the Program
The New York Arts Program is designed to provide interested students in any major
the opportunity to experience working in an arts related field of their choice and earn up to 15 academic credits in the process. Selected students spend a semester living in New York City and working as an intern/apprentice. Former students have interned with
Saturday Night Live, Glamour magazine, Teen Vogue, NBC, MTV, VH1, Mary Zimmerman’s Arabian Nights, Strasburg Institute, Young Peoples Chorus of NYC, plus numerous others. The
opportunities provided through the New York Arts Program are priceless and can oftentimes lead to careers within their selected field |

One of the best ways to gather information about a program is to gain access to the thoughts, feelings and experiences of someone who has lived it.
Internship Development sat down with SU Student Desiree Johnson, a senior communication studies
major, to find out what it was really like interning with the GLCA New York Arts Program. |

Who did you intern with in NYC? D.J-“Glamour Magazine
in the Conde Nast building on Times Square.”What surprised you about the internship? D.J.-“What surprised me was the sheer amount of work that is behind the scenes in the fashion
department. Out of all the departments, I would say the fashion department puts in the most amount of work time outside the office.” What was most rewarding? D.J-“Simply being a part of the
magazine process and seeing how my department worked with others to get it all done by the deadline. Plus it was fun to see the magazine being formed before even the subscribers saw it!”
What was the best part of your internship? D.J-“Definitely living in the city of New York. The house the GLCA program provides is in the center of Manhattan and close to just about everything.”
Is there one event that you will remember forever? D.J.- “Absolutely! I earned the opportunity to work as a fashion assistant and was able to meet and dress John Legend, Josh Hartnett, and the 4 main
actors from NBC’s Saturday Night Live. |
