WHAT ARE THE SU PIRATE APPRENTICE DAYS?
SU Pirate Apprentice Days is designed to connect Sophomores with a SU Pirate Alumna/us to spend a day with them talking about their career field and being part of their day-to-day routine.  During this short-term externship you will be able to explore a career field you are interested in while building your own network of contacts and gaining valuable information that may be useful as you begin to think about career options and internships over the next couple of years.

DO I JOB SHADOW IN THE AUSTIN AREA?
That is completely up to you!!!  On your application we ask you to denote cities (including outside the state of Texas) that you would like to job shadow in.

WHAT COMPANY WILL I SHADOW WITH?
Career Services will work with you to find the best alumni match for your interests.  On the application form is a section where you can list specific companies you are interested in learning more about.  While we cannot guarantee that we can place you with one of your preferred companies/organizations, we will

do our best to find an exciting location that can offer you the information and experience you are looking for.                                                                       

DO I GET PAID?
Participants will be responsible for all travel and housing costs, meals for yourself, completion of an evaluation, along with other general professional etiquette standards such as thank you letters, etc. to your host.  The student will not receive compensation for their time during the job shadow experience.

DO I SHADOW THE ENTIRE WEEK?
Typically, the job shadowing experience is just for a day.  If you would like to job shadow more than one day, we will work with the alumni to see if this is possible or potentially find a second location for you to shadow at.

SOUNDS GREAT! HOW DO I SIGN-UP?
To apply for the program, you will need to fill out the APPLICATION by typing your information into the form, printing it off, and signing it.  Then, bring the completed form to Career Services (located in the McCook-Crain building next to the Kyle E. White Religious Center. Applications are available at www.southwestern.edu/Pirate_Apprentice/application/application.

Once you submit your application to Career Services, you will be required to submit additional application materials:
1.  RESUME (please contact Internship Development at x1671 or via email at hardinm@southwestern.edu if you would like your resume critiqued)
2.  FACULTY RECOMMENDATION FORM (Available at www.southwestern.edu/careers/Students/Resources/Handouts/handouts.html).

In addition, all applicants will be asked to participate in a 15-minute professional interview with a Career Services member to review your application and discuss your expectations and the expectations we have for you during your shadowing experience.  Interviews will be scheduled during a time that works best for you during normal business hours (8:00am - 12:00pm, 1:00pm - 5:00pm)
