Roger Young, Director of Career Services


Roger earned an M.S. in Systems Management from the Air Force Institute of Technology in Dayton, Ohio, and a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  After graduating from Illinois, Roger spent the next 21 years with the Air Force in various assignments including training, engineering management, project management, and recruiting scientists and engineers for Air Force scientific positions.  After retiring from the Air Force in 1994, he joined Career Services at St. Mary's University as the Recruiting & Placement Coordinator.  He came to Southwestern as Director of Career Services in August 1998.  In addition to providing leadership for the office, Roger helps students with career advising and builds connections with employers.

Alexandra Anderson, Associate Director


Alexandra earned an M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration and an M.A. in Spanish Linguistics from The University of Texas at Austin.  She also earned her B.A. in Spanish and Linguistics from UT.  Alex worked in Residence Life at UT, The University of Arizona and The University of California, Davis, for 10 years as a Resident Assistant, Graduate Resident Director and Resident Director.  She also completed internships in Career Services offices at U of A and UCD.  A former Army-brat, Alex is happy to call Central Texas her adopted home.  She joined Career Services in July 2000 as the Assistant Director and was promoted to Associate Director in July 2007.  She assists students with major, career and graduate school advising, maintains the website and coordinates many career-related presentations.



Maria Kruger ‘91, Internship  Coordinator

Maria earned an Ed.M. in Educational Organization and Leadership from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and obtained her B.A. in History from Southwestern University in 1991.  For eight years, Maria worked in the field of Academic Services for Intercollegiate Athletics with the University of Illinois and the University of Houston.  Maria returned to Southwestern to join the Career Services Staff as Internship Coordinator in November 1999.  Maria assists students, faculty, and employers with all aspects of the internship process, including opportunities in New York City and Washington, DC.  Maria’s partner, David Seiler, is Assistant Director of Academic Services at SU.

Sharon Hehman, Staff Secretary


Sharon is the secretary for Career Services, and has been at Southwestern University since 1985 and in Career Services since 1988.  She is a Central Texas native, and the person that holds Career Services together.  Sharon works with employers to schedule on-campus interviews, manages MonsterTRAK and is happy to help students and alumni schedule appointments, arrange meetings, check out books and videos and answer questions about services and resources.

Megan Hardin, Staff Secretary


Megan is the secretary for Internship Development, where she supports the Internship Coodinator, coordinates the Internship Connections Fair and helps students with internship questions, including obtaining paperwork for academic credit.  Megan earned her Bachelor of Arts from Simpson College in Iowa in 2001.  She has been with Career Services since August 2006, after serving as the assistant women’s basketball coach/ recruiting coordinator at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, TX.

Career Associate Staff


Each year Career Services hires up to five students in part-time positions for the academic year and one student full-time for the summer.  Student staff maintain the Resource Center and NACElink job postings, correspond with alumni to complete the Post-Graduation Survey, track statistical data, maintain the Success Showcase in the McCombs Campus Center and more.  Contact Career Services if you would like to learn more about this opportunity!
