Financial Assistance at Southwestern

For Prospective Students

Early Decision Students

Early Decision candidates requiring need-based financial assistance are considered for financial aid and scholarship support before having to commit to the university by the January 10 deadline. An Early Decision Financial Aid Form (EDFAF) is sent to the family by November 15. When completed and returned by December 1, the supplied information enables our Office of Financial Aid to evaluate the family's eligibility and send an award letter to the family by December 15. This gives the family some time to assess whether or not the aid is sufficient for the student to accept the offer of admission. If the aid package is viewed as insufficient, the student is allowed to withdraw the application and pursue other college choices.

If you accept our offer of admission and financial aid, you must submit a FAFSA by March 1 so that we can confirm our initial estimate of your financial aid eligibility. Following this final assessment, an award letter will be sent to you explaining the types and amounts of financial aid available to you.

Early Action and Regular Decision Students

Students applying under the Early Action or Regular Decision plan who plan to apply for need-based aid will need to submit a FAFSA by March 1. Financial aid award letters will be sent to admitted students on a rolling basis beginning in mid-February.

Transfer Students

Transfer students must first work with the Admissions Office to gain admission to Southwestern University before acquiring a Financial Aid Package. The application process is the same as for New Students. The required form for applying for Financial Aid at Southwestern University is the FAFSA and is due by May 15.

International Students

Southwestern provides only merit-based academic scholarships to international students. A student will be eligible for academic scholarship consideration upon completing an admission application. In order to be considered for admission, international students must submit a Certification of Finances form and provide proof of funds equal to the cost of attendance at Southwestern. Southwestern does not provide need-based financial aid for international students.
