Scholarship Information

Dell Scholarship - $20,000 scholarship. Must have participated in Upward Bound for two or more years, have a 2.4 gpa and have financial need. Deadline is Jan. 15.
Gates Millenium Scholarship - No set dollar amount, this scholarship covers “unmet need”. Open to African American, Asian American, Hispanic and Native American students who meet Pell grant eligibility. Must have a 3.3 gpa. Deadline is Jan. 10
Horatio Alger - for students with an annual family income less than $50,00. Deadline is Oct. 30

“Tuition Promise” Programs

These universities provide scholarship/grant money to cover all tuition and fees to qualifying students. Students must be admitted to the university first. To apply, submit the FAFSA by March 1. Click on the name of the school for more details.

Stephen F. Austin - Purple Promise - for students with an annual family income less than $30,000
Texas A&M University - Aggie Assurance - covers tuition for students with an annual family income less than $60,000. Texas A&M also has the Regents Scholarship for first-generation students with an annual family income less than $50,000
Texas Tech University - Red Raider Guarantee - for students with an annual family income less than $40,000
UT Arlington - Maverick Promise - for students with an annual family income less than $65,000
UT Dallas - Tuition Promise - for students with an annual family income less than $25,000
UTPA - UTPAdvantage - for students with an annual family income less than $35,000
UTSA - UTSAccess - for students with an annual family income less than $30,000

Federal and State Grant Programs

Grant (free) money awarded to students based on financial need. To apply, submit the FAFSA by March 1.

TEXAS Grant - free money from the state of Texas for students with an EFC up to $4,000

Student Loan Information

The best student loans are offered by the government through the college’s Financial Aid Office. Students must qualify for these loans and apply through the FAFSA application.

Direct Loans - Low interest student loan provided by the federal government. “Subsidized” loans are interest-free while the student is in college. “Unsubsidized” accrue interest while the student is in college. Flexible repayment plans are available.
Texas B-on-Time Loans - Low interest student loan provided by the state of Texas for qualifying students. These loans are interest-free while the student is in college and may be forgiven if the student meets certain requirements.

Note: If you do not qualify for the loans listed above, the loan listed below is a great alternative offered by the state of Texas. This loan has its own application and requires a credit check. Academic Summer Programs

Texas Governor’s School - The Texas Governor’s School is a FREE (except for transportation to and from, and personal expenses) three week intensive summer educational program, open to rising juniors. This program will focus on enriching and developing a student’s abilities in science and technology as well as exploring the impacts of these fields on past, present, and future societies including ethics, history, and the arts. Applications due March 12. FOR RISING JRs ONLY.

The McCombs Future Executive Academy (MFEA) is your chance to discover what a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree and a career in business could mean for you. Spend a week in June, all expenses paid, at the top-rated McCombs School of Business on The University of Texas at Austin campus. You will live in a residence hall; meet faculty, business professionals and other students interested in business; attend hands-on workshops; take field trips to Austin-area companies; and create a real marketing plan for a local business. Join us and make new friends, become familiar with the amazing UT campus and begin building skills now that you can use to succeed at school and on the job. The McCombs High School Summer Programs are open to students with strong interests in business. Fifty students will be selected to attend each session. Outstanding African-American, Hispanic and Native American students, as well as those who have overcome any social or economic hardship, are strongly encouraged to apply. Texas A&M University College Station: SMaRT Camp - This is a FREE two-week residential program intended to facilitate student’s interest in math. Applications due by March. FOR ALL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

UT Austin’s Equal Opportunity in Engineering Program, offers My Introduction to Engineering (MITE) Summer Camp. MITE is a free, five-day residential camp that offers current high school sophomores and juniors the opportunity to discover engineering through hands-on projects and interactions with engineering students, faculty, staff and alumni. MITE is open to students with strong interests in engineering, science or math. Outstanding African-American, Hispanic and Native American students, as well as those who have overcome any social or economic hardship, are strongly encouraged to apply. All students are welcome to apply.. Student participants are housed in a campus dorm. All program expenses (including housing and food) are paid for, with the exception of travel to and from The University of Texas at Austin. Deadline to apply is April 6.
The Texas A&M ECE (Electrical and Computer Engineering) Unplugged Summer Camp is a five day camp designed to give high school students with an interest in engineering an opportunity to explore electrical and computer engineering as a career. Held in July, the camp is open to all high school juniors and seniors; underrepresented groups interested in engineering at Texas A&M are particularly encouraged to apply (African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans and women). A program application is required - check the program web site below for the application deadline. Grade Level(s): High school students must be in grade 10 or 11 at the time they apply. Cost: $25. Deadline: May 14.

Upward Bound Math and Science at UT Arlington – UBMS is a FREE six week math and science summer program on the UT Arlington campus. There is also an academic year component. Applications due Jan. 14, 2010. FOR RISING 10^th,11^th, and 12th graders *This program only recruits students from certain target high schools not in the area. Students from Williamson County will only be admitted if there are not enough applications from the program’s target high schools.

NASA: Texas Aerospace Scholars - An interactive, on-line learning experience, highlighted by a six-day internship where selected students are encouraged to study math, science, engineering, or computer science by interacting with engineers at the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC). Applications due Nov. 15 2010. FOR RISING JRs ONLY.

Angelo State University: SIDES Program - Designed to introduce students to the college experience, this program expands on course material learned in high school. This program is dual credit. Application due May 10th 2011. FOR RISING JRs and SRs ONLY.
Baylor University: Baylor High School Science Research Project- Gives superior high school students hands-on research experience by working on research projects with Baylor University science professors in many disciplines. Application due March 1 2011. FOR RISING SRs ONLY.
Texas A&M University College Station: Women Explore Engineering (WEE) - The camp will focus on issues important to women and other groups that are under-represented in the field of engeineering (African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans). Applications due April 30th 2011. FOR RISING SOPHOMORE and JR GIRLS.

University of Houston: MESET- A one-week residential engineering introduction program for SRs. Application due May 30 2011. FOR RISING SRs ONLY.
UT Austin: Summer Academy in Architecture- The Summer Academy is geared toward people who have little to no background in architecture and who wish to test and refine their interests in the field. Application due April 19 2011. FOR STUDENTS AGED 17 and UP.
UT Arlington: Camp Access - A one week camp designed to provide students with a broad exposure to the variety of engineering disciplines- aerospace, biomedical,civil &environmental, computer science, electrical, materials science and mechanical- plus related topics in chemistry and physics.
