SYMPOSIUM OVERVIEW
Southwestern University will hold its ninth annual Student Works SymposiumFrom Every Voice (formerly known as the Undergraduate Research and Creative Works Symposium) the evening of Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. in the Red and Charline McCombs Campus Center and the Alma Thomas Fine Arts Center..
Sponsored by all university departments, the symposium serves as a vehicle for Southwestern students to present the results of their research and creative work. The symposium is modeled after a typical academic conference registration, abstract submissions, concurrent sessions, etc. and abstracts are published together in a bound volume.
We hope that you will join us this year in order to appreciate and learn from the diverse and exceptional endeavors of Southwestern University students. All are invited to attend !

PROGRAM AND ABSTRACTS
Students are encouraged to present some aspect of their research in a contributed paper, poster, exhibition or performance.
CONTRIBUTED PAPERS (oral/podium presentations) will be 12 minutes in length with 3 minutes for questions.
CONTRIBUTED POSTERS will fit onto bulletin boards that are 6 ft tall and 4 ft wide (4' is the absolute maximum width for printed posters.)
CREATIVE WORKS (i.e. displayed artwork) will be displayed as appropriate.
MUSIC AND THEATRE PIECES will be up to 12 minutes in length with 3 minutes for questions.

SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS & TITLES
Deadline: Wednesday, February 27, 2008, 5 p.m.
Abstracts: Each contributed paper, poster, exhibition or performance requires a 250-word (maximum) abstract. An abstract is a brief, informative summary of the content of your poster, oral presentation, exhibit or performance.
It should be written in clear, simple language that someone without a background in your field can understand. Your abstract will be published online and printed in the program, which will be distributed at the symposium. Before submitting your abstract, please (a) have your faculty sponsor read and/or approve it and (b) proofread carefully for grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors. Electronic submission of abstracts must be completed using the online forms. Please use the appropriate submission form for the type of presentation (i.e., poster, oral exhibition or performance) you will be giving.
