KEYBOARD PROGRAM Keyboard students at SU have access to numerous fine instruments for performance and practice, including two Steinway concert grands in the Alma Thomas Theater. The size of the department allows for many individual performance opportunities, such as accompanying student performances and ensembles, and concerto appearances with the SU orchestra (by competitive audition), as well as close contact with visiting artists. Recent guest performers include Kevin Kenner, prizewinner in the Moscow Tchaikovsky and Warsaw Chopin Competitions, and Roger Wright, winner of the San Antonio International Piano Competition, as well as many distinguished artists from the Central Texas area. Graduating keyboard majors at SU have gone on to further study in major programs such as the University of Houston and University of North Texas; others have pursued careers in fields such as musicology and law. |
