Dr. Philip Hopkins

Prof. Hopkins' specialty is Ancient Philosophy, but he approaches his area by means of broad background and interests. He has a B.A. in Humanities and Literature, an M.A. in the Intellectual History of the Western World, and a Ph.D. in Ancient Philosophy from the University of Texas at Austin. His particular interest in early Greek thought concerning discourse and understanding has led to research in the rhetoric of mass media and the relation of media and moral heuristics. He has keen and active teaching interests the Philosophy of Science and the Philosophy of Religion.

In balance with the less tangible practice of teaching and learning, Prof. Hopkins spends what time he can on his land and in his shop, often with his children, Becca and Issac, using 18th and 19th century hand tools to make furniture.

Below, a seminar class can be seen discussing in a classroom recently remodeled by Prof. Hopkins.
