AP CREDIT at SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY
College Board Advanced Placement (AP) examination credit is recognized, and three or four semester hours of Southwestern equivalent credit may be awarded for scores of 4 or 5 in each subject area. AP credits may count for academic distribution courses (Area Two) which are needed to satisfy general education requirements.
Before Southwestern will actually award the credit earned via AP, we must receive an official score report directly from the College Board. To make this happen, check the web site at http://www.collegeboard.com/ap/stud ents/faq/faq004.html#q1. The web page www.collegeboard.com/ap/ might be a better starting point.
Students presenting acceptable scores in Biology will meet with Biology Department faculty to determine exactly which course credits to award, allowing the student minimal repeat of content in subsequent courses.
No credit is given for College Board Aptitude (SAT) or Achievement Tests or ACT examinations. However, students who do well on these tests are encouraged to take the appropriate College Board Advanced Placement examinations through their high school to be awarded credit as stated above.
The English Composition requirement is satisfied by taking UST05-113, College Writing. A score of 4 or 5 in the ENG LANG/COMP AP test or the ENG LIT/COMP test will yield credit for that course. If both, extra hours are given.
