SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR STUDY ABROAD
Southwestern maintains two scholarship funds:
Lokey Scholarship - The Lokey Scholarship is reserved for summer study abroad programs.
Awards range from $200 - $500 and are made on the basis of academic merit and financial need.

Kahler Scholarship - The Kahler Scholarship provides awards for semester and year-long study abroad. These awards are made primarily on the basis of financial need. Kahler awards typically range from $1,000 - $3,500.
Students applying for study abroad will be automatically considered based on need.
Gilman Scholarship

This scholarship provides awards for US undergraduate students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at a 2-year or 4-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide.
Eligibility :
1.The applicant is a citizen of the United States. Permanent Residents are not eligible.
2.The applicant is an undergraduate student in good standing at an institution of higher education located in
the United States. Students may be attending a two- or four-year institution. Community College students are particularly encouraged to apply.
3.The applicant is receiving federal Pell Grant funding
during the academic term of his/her application.
Applicants must be receiving a Pell grant at the time of
application to be eligible.
4.The applicant is applying to or been accepted for a
program of study abroad eligible for undergraduate
credit by the student's home institution.
Proof of program acceptance is required for final award
disbursement.
5.The applicant is not studying in a country that is
currently under a Travel Warning issued by the United
States Department of State or Cuba.

6.The applicant is applying to an academic year, semester,
quarter, or short-term program abroad. Short-term
programs must be at least four weeks in length.
7.The applicant is applying to single-country program.
Multi-country programs are not eligible.
Freeman-Asia

Goal: to increase the number of American undergraduates who study in East and Southeast Asia, by providing students
with the information and financial assistance they will need. Awardees will be expected to share their experiences with their home campus to encourage study abroad by others, and to spread understanding of Asia in their home communities.
Award Benefits
Eligible study abroad programs must be a minimum
of 8 weeks for the summer, 10 weeks for a quarter, and 12 weeks for the
semester.
Freeman-ASIA award benefits are determined by the length of the program and the financial need of the grantee. Awards will be paid directly to the awardees and will be released to the campus advisers for distribution. The following table lists the fixed scholarship amount for any one academic term in a study abroad program:*

* If program costs are less than the award amount (or covered by existing financial aid) students can use the Freeman-ASIA award to cover related expenses such as airfare, living costs, books, etc.
