1. The program is open to any student who will have achieved Junior
or Senior standing by the start of the program. The minimum GPA is
3.0. Well-qualified second semester Sophomores may be accepted.
2. The course plan for a SU student on this program:

3. Students earn 12 credit hours and their grades will appear on their
Southwestern transcript.
4. Students register at Southwestern and will pay the normal tuition, plus
room and board equivalent to a Lord Center apartment (double) and a 19 meal
plan. Students who normally qualifys for financial aid are eligible
to receive most forms of aid (excluding work/study) from Southwestern.
5. The University will pay the student a stipend to cover food costs.
The stipend is given as a lump sum check before the beginning of the semester
and will be mailed to the student’s permanent address or other designated
address.
6. Housing is in Capitol Hill area. Flats are within
blocks of the Capitol, the Supreme Court Building, Union Station, and the
Folger’s Shakespeare Library. All rooms are completely furnished
(including TVs and telephones), with common rooms and furnished kitchens. Bedrooms
are quads. All utility, maintenance and cleaning costs are included
in the program fee.
7. Students must provide their own medical insurance. Be sure
to check on stipulations within the insurance policy which dictate terms
for “out of network” doctor visits and medical procedures.
8. The program director in Washington helps students arrange internships,
monitors the internships, supervises residential life, provides a 2 1/2 hour
intern
seminar each week that gives an intellectual and personal context for the
internship experience. An adjunct faculty member teaches an academic seminar
(also 2 ½ hours
per week). The director
also provides a no-credit social program for the students.
9. Some PCs are available. One Internet line. Bring a modem if you want to use
your own Internet service.
10. Bring a $ 200 check with you at the beginning of the semester for
your “furniture deposit.” This fee is refundable for normal
wear and
tear.
