Dr. Sandi Nenga, assistant professor of sociology, presented a paper titled "Crossing Class Lines? Adolescents' Experiences of Volunteer Work" at the 2005 annual meetings of the American Sociological Association. The meetings took place Aug. 12-16 in Philadelphia, Pa.
At those same meetings, Dr. Edward L. Kain, professor of sociology and university scholar, served on a panel titled "How do They do It? Award-Winning Instructors Talk About Successful Strategies." He also led a workshop for graduate students on "Teaching Large Classes" and one for department chairs on "Evaluation of Your Program/Major--Program Review." Finally, he co-led three workshops on "Recruiting and Retaining Majors" and two aimed at graduate students who are on the job market, titled "Preparing Your Credentials for a Teaching-Oriented Position" and "Getting a Position that Values Teaching."
