Traci Giuliano, associate professor of psychology, recently had an article published in the journal "Sex Roles." The article, co-authored with Jennifer Knight '00 and a Rice Ph.D, as well as other Rice students and faculty, is entitled "Paying the way: The ticket to Gender Equality in Sports."

Alicia L. Moore, assistant professor of education, and La Vonne I. Neal, associate professor of education, have written a book chapter titled "Cultural, Linguistic, and Instructional Diversity." It will appear in "Exceptional Children in Today's Schools: What Teachers Need To Know" (Editors: Ed Meyen and Yvonne Bui, 2005). The book is designed for use in introductory courses such as the foundations of special education, introduction to exceptional children and youth, survey of special education or introduction to exceptional learners. The emphasis is content related to the instructional implications of learner attributes, information on culture and language diversity that often is associated with students with exceptional learning needs, the implications of assessment for instructional planning, and how to collaborate with others to meet the educational and life needs of students with exceptional learning needs. The purpose of this book is to maximize the advantages of technology in providing prospective teachers access to information and instructional resources and includes content-related web-based features.
A.J. Senchack, professor of international business, presented an invited paper, "Change Management and Experiential Learning in the Organizational Development Curriculum," co-authored with SU Professor Mary Grace Neville, at the Academy of Business Education in April 2004 in Mystic Seaport, Conn.

"The Sculpture International Journal" (September 2004, Vol. 23 No.7) has published a five-page article on the International Rapid Prototyping Sculpture exhibition curated by Mary Visser and sponsored by the Sarofim School of Fine Arts. The International Rapid Prototyping Sculpture Exhibit represents the latest and most advanced work in the growing field of digital sculpture and is a major contribution to this innovative art form. This article mentions the Sarofim School of Fine Arts at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, as one of five institutions leading the field in using technology in the creation of artworks. This list of institutions include PRISM labs at ASU, the Manchester Institute for Research and Innovation in Art and Design at Manchester Metropolitan University, the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris, and the Fine Arts Department at NYIT in New York.
The International Rapid Prototyping Sculpture Exhibition will open on Sept. 12th at the University of Houston at Clearlake. Mary Hale Visser will present a lecture at 2 p.m. in the Bayou Building, Level 2, Room 2512, on new technologies in the field of sculpture. She will discuss the making of this important exhibition and the artists who contribute to the knowledge in this field. Jesse Purdy, professor of psychology, published a book chapter titled "Conducting Behavioral Research with Animals at Smaller Institutions: A Case History." It appears in "Laboratory Animals in Research and Teaching" (Akins, Paniker, and Cunningham, 2005), a publication of the American Psychological Association.

Laura Hobgood-Oster was acknowledged as one of three executive editors for the "Encyclopedia of Religion and Nature" (forthcoming in 2005, Continuum Press). The entire editorial team included 15 associate and 15 assistant editors as well as the editor-in-chief.
Deb McCarthy's manuscript, "Tools for the Journey," has been accepted for publication. "Tools for the Journey" will be included in a monograph entitled "New Horizons: People with Disabilities Share Their College Experiences," published by the Association of Higher Education and Disability. Publication is anticipated in November 2004.
