Fred Sellers, associate professor of economics and business, had a letter, "Who bears the cost of options?" published in the Sept. 10 "Wall Street Journal."

Scott McLean, associate professor of kinesiology, co-authored the paper titled "Gait changes with unilateral and bilateral upper extremity loading" presented at the 49th Annual Meeting of the American College of Sports Medicine in St. Louis, Mo. He also was appointed to the Biomechanics Sports Performance Team for USA Swimming to serve as a technical advisor to staff members and to generate articles and position papers for the US National Team.
Tim O'Neill, professor of political science, published an article on Hong Kong in volume II of Herbert M. Kritzer, editor, "Legal Systems of the World" (ABC-CLIO, 2002).
Jimmy Smith, professor, and Scott McLean, associate professor, in the Department of Kinesiology, presented the paper titled "Effect of fatigue on shoulder repositioning" at the 49th Annual Meeting of the American College of Sports Medicine in St. Louis, Mo, in June. The paper was co-authored by Kinesiology major Jeanine Ashdown '02. Jimmy Smith also served on the faculty of the United States Track and Field Association's Level 2 coaching school/clinic in Boise, Id., in July.

Lois Ferrari, associate professor of music, recently optioned her romantic comedy screenplay, "On the Fence," to Nostro/Odeon, an independent production company.
Maria Lowe, associate professor of sociology, presented a paper titled
"The Academy as Free Space and Faculty as Transformative Intellectuals: Advancing the Cause of Racial Equality at Millsaps College and Tougaloo College" at the American Sociological Association meetings in Chicago,
IL, Aug.16-19.
La Vonne I. Neal, assistant professor of education, conducted a workshop
in the Austin Independent School District on Aug. 14, 2002. The workshop titled "Creating a Culturally-Responsive Classroom" was presented to teachers at Dobie Middle School and Pearce Middle School.
Kimberly Smith, assistant professor of art history, gave a talk this summer
titled "The Rhetoric of Expressionist Art and Art History" at the triennial conference of the International Association for Word and Image Studies in Hamburg, Germany.
Education Department students: Melina Berduo, Christine Norquest, Bobby Prince and Ross Salinas and assistant professors of education Alicia Moore and La Vonne I. Neal will present their paper at the National Association for Multicultural Education international conference in Washington, D.C., Oct. 30-Nov. 3. The paper is titled: "Lift Every Voice and Sing about Sexual Orientation: Pre-Service Teachers Making a Joyful Noise for Harmonious Classrooms."
Ana Alcaraz, Krystyn Alter, and Janel Owens presented posters at the 224th American Chemical Society National Meeting in Boston, Mass. Ana's poster titled "Two-fold extrusion approaches to tamoxifen" was based on her work with Frank Guziec, professor of chemistry. Krystyn's poster "Acid-base reaction chemistry within reverse micelle systems formed in supercritical CO2" and Janel's poster "Analysis of industrial water pollution within a Mexican colonia" were both based on research conducted with Emily Niemeyer, assistant professor of chemistry.
