COLLEGE YEAR IN ATHENS -
ASSOCIATED COLLEGES OF THE SOUTH
Students at institutions belonging to the Associated Colleges of the
South (ACS) have the opportunity to study in Greece at College Year in
Athens (CYA). Southwestern University acts as the ACS consortium clearing
house.
Most importantly, Southwestern validates CYA transcripts for ACS students.
ACADEMIC PROGRAM
College Year in Athens offers a broad range of courses, spanning the
disciplines of history, art & archaeology, political science, Latin
and Greek, philosophy, anthropology & sociology, business, religion,
political science, and environmental studies. CYA fully integrates the
environment of Greece with the academic program. Some courses have as
a required component field trips, site visits, and museum sessions. Modern
Greek is taught on a formal basis, and students are urged strongly to
take this course.
CYA has a very distinguished faculty, numbering over twenty. They are
scholars with international professional reputations who choose to teach
at the undergraduate level. Therefore, students have the opportunity to
study with some of the world's foremost scholars.
While CYA has an obvious appeal to Classics majors, its broad range of
course offerings makes it an attractive program for students with any
major. Since courses are taught in English, it is one of the few programs
in a non-English speaking country that does not require a working knowledge
of the local language.
